The Magic Wanes

A century-long decline transformed magic from an ordinary force into forbidden memory.

The disappearance was gradual—and therefore all the more devastating.

Divine silence

Contact with the gods became increasingly difficult around a century before the campaign. Clerics could at first obtain lesser blessings through avatars, but those answers diminished until all contact ceased seventeen years later.

The failing current

Arcane casters found that they could no longer draw enough mana for their greatest spells. Eventually they could learn no new spells at all. The surviving lore remained teachable, but its practice became impossible.

The death of wonders

Potions, charged objects and minor enchantments failed first. Most permanent objects followed. Only exceptionally powerful items and artefacts appear to have retained anything of their former nature.

What remains unknown

No confirmed cause has been established. The barbarian invasions, the sealed towers and the silence of the gods overlap in the historical record, but no connection has yet been proven.
